I’m a Rich Man

Living in the UK is cheap. The living cost is high but what i mean is, the people are cheap. They DIY a lot, because asking other people to fix thing for you will be costly. For example, changing a car’s brake pad at your local workshop will cost around 30 to 40 pound, while the brake pad it self only cost 15 pound if bought form the local spare part shop. Search “how to change brake pad” on google and most likely you’ll manage to change your car’s brake pad over the weekend successfully by yourself using those information from the internet.

Even when it come to changing worn tyres, the Brits went to used tyre dealer. A used tyre cost around 15 pound, while a new one ranging from 25 to a few hundreds pound. These second hand tyre can still be rolling for 5 to 6 months depending on usage.

What about food? The food here is cheap. The supermarkets is in constant price war with each other. There are always price cut everywhere. One full supermarket trolly is about 50 to 100 pound average. For me, one full trolly of food will last for months. In the supermarket you’ll find a lot of people looking for bargain product usually labelled in hi flourecent, eye catching price tag.

The houses here are relatively small. Compared to our Malaysian houses, an average UK house can easily fit in our dining room. The reason people here like small houses is because it is warmer during winter time compare to bigger houses. The more space you have in your home means the more energy used to keep it warm. More energy equal more money spend, so small houses is the obvious choice.

This is different from Malaysian. We Malaysian are rich and spoilt people. Whenever our car has minor breakdown we send it to the workshop. Whenever we want to go shopping, we drive even if the shopping mall is only a few blocks away. We don’t cook our own food, we go to the gerai or restaurant to dine. We sleep with the aircondition on. We have relatively big houses. We drive expensive car (even for the kancil, it’s still expensive). Not to mention the price of chicken. We Malaysian are rich people, we live like kings ha ha!

Oh, how I wanted to be rich again.. (sambil geleng2 kepala)
